Shadows, they are everywhere but you can’t catch them. They come and then disappear. According to Plato, the allegory of the cave is the unreal world. Only come out of the cave where one sees the objects and people that form the shadows one finds oneself in the real world. In this for me, real world shadows can be something that no other human or animal product can. Shadows can effortlessly follow floors, corners and products. They seem fluid, so smoothly they move across different surfaces.
By capturing shadows and then converting them into tangible material (wood), new objects are created. These objects get a place in the real world under the name Shadow Construction.
Shadow Construction is an exciting series of objects that make you think about what you see. Marte Haverkamp draws new forms for real objects with the unreal shadows. Objects that make you imagine yourself in a different world.
